Selective metal cation capture by soft anionic metal-organic frameworks via drastic single-crystal-to-single-crystal transformations.

چکیده
Flexible anionic metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are transformed into neutral heterobimetallic systems via single-crystal-to-single-crystal processes invoked by cation insertion. These transformations are directed by cooperative bond breakage and formation, resulting in expansion or contraction of the 3D framework by up to 33% due to the flexible nature of the organic linker. These MOFs displays highly selective uptake of divalent transition-metal cations (e.g., Co(2+) and Ni(2+)) over alkali-metal cations (Li(+) and Na(+)).

Stable porphyrin Zr and Hf metal-organic frameworks featuring 2.5 nm cages: high surface areas, SCSC transformations and catalyses.
Two isostructural porphyrin Zr and Hf metal-organic frameworks (FJI-H6 and FJI-H7) are rationally synthesized, and are constructed from 2.5 nm cubic cages. Notably, they both possess high water and chemical stability and can undergo single-crystal to single-crystal transformations to embed Cu2+ ions into the open porphyrin rings. FJI-H6 has a high BET surface area of 5033 m2 g-1. Additionally, ...
متن کاملA series of isostructural mesoporous metal-organic frameworks obtained by ion-exchange induced single-crystal to single-crystal transformation.
A series of metal-organic frameworks representing a non-interpenetrated framework analogue of MOF-14 have been synthesized by using two different linkers, 4,4',4''-benzene-1,3,5-triyl-benzoic acid (H(3)BTB) and 4,4'-bipyridine (Bpy). Interestingly, the transition metal ions in the paddle-wheel metal clusters could be exchanged by other transition metal ions via a direct single-crystal to single...
متن کاملSingle crystalline hollow metal-organic frameworks: a metal-organic polyhedron single crystal as a sacrificial template.
Single crystalline hollow metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with cavity dimensions on the order of several micrometers and hundreds of micrometers were prepared using a metal-organic polyhedron single crystal as a sacrificial hard template. The hollow nature of the MOF crystal was confirmed by scanning electron microscopy of the crystal sliced using a focused ion beam.
متن کاملRecent Advances in Crystal Engineering from Nanoscience Views: A Brief Review
Crystal engineering has recently emerged as a method of choice for the design and construction of organic as well as metal-organic functional materials. Crystal engineering attempts to establish packing trends in whole families of compounds and seeks to establish connections between structure and function. The utility of crystal engineering has also been expanded to the nanoscience and the deve...
متن کاملBeyond post-synthesis modification: evolution of metal-organic frameworks via building block replacement.
Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are hybrid porous materials with many potential applications, which intimately depend on the presence of chemical functionality either at the organic linkers and/or at the metal nodes. Functionality that cannot be introduced into MOFs directly via de novo syntheses can be accessed through post-synthesis modification (PSM) on the reactive moieties of the linkers a...
